Prayer Guide October 2018
In late September, you may have heard reports of a devastating earthquake and tsunami hitting Indonesia, killing over 800 people.
Langham Partnership has close links with Indonesia, including a thriving Langham Preaching movement there.
We recently received this report from Hamdani Tedja and Beatris Pangala, who head up Langham Preaching in Indonesia.
They asked us to pray:
- for Langham friends who are on the front-line helping people who are wounded, displaced and bereaved.
- for the Government to handle the situation wisely.
Students at a Langham Literature member college who were forced to flee South Sudan were so determined to complete their course last year, that they ended up building their own classroom.
Now most of the students are ministering to South Sudanese Churches, which have been set up in refugee camps in Uganda.
Over the last two years, Langham Literature has given Bishop Allison Theological College (BATC) two library grants.
Please pray that these resources will be used wisely by the staff and students at BATC. Also pray for the students, as they are trained to be the future leaders of the South Sudanese Church.
Langham Scholar Gerardo Corpeño is from El Salvador, but has lived and worked in Guatemala for eight years. He is pursuing his PhD in Theology from Wheaton College in Illinois, USA. His research focuses on the implications of Christ’s cross for reconciliation in violent societies.
Gerardo asks us to thank God for Langham Partnership, which is funding his studies. He also asks us to pray that:
- he will do well academically as he starts his second year of the PhD programme.
- his family will continue to adapt to living in the US and learn English well.
A prayer to use in your church service, prayer meeting, home group or individually:
“Heavenly Father, we ask for your mercy on our brothers and sisters in Indonesia. Please be with our Langham friends as they help the wounded and comfort the bereaved. Gracious Lord, we pray for the Bible College students from South Sudan who are now studying in Uganda. Please help the staff there to use Langham Literature resources wisely. And finally, we intercede for Langham Scholar Gerardo Corpeño – help him to flourish in his studies.
In your precious son Jesus Christ’s name,
